Who are we
Royal Mangalitsa is an initiative inspired by two passionate Mangalitsa breeders:
​
Barbara Meyer zu Altenschildesche from the Netherlands (born in Germany) and Wilhelm W. Kohl (born in Austria) from the USA.
We started to work together in 2014 and got married in February 2020. From 2020 till 2024 they live partly in the US and Europe, as Barbara was waiting for her Greencards. They live since August 2024 in Florida (Lakewood Ranch) in the winter and in Michigan (Haslett) in the summer.
They are still spending time in Europe with family and for sure are visiting Mangalitsa breeders wherever they travel.
Wilhelm imported in 2010 the first Blonde Mangalitsa from Austria to Haslett, MI. In 2014 Red & Blonde Mangalitsas of Hungarian genetics were exported by Barbara to the US/Wilhelm and in 2016 additional Red and Swallow Belly breeding stock was exported again by her from the Netherlands to several US breeders.

Barbara also exported 25 Mangalitsa (all 3 colors) breeding pigs from the Netherlands to Japan, Hokkaido. They were the first pure breed Mangalitsa in Asia.
She also did exports of breeding genetics to European countries, like:
France, Germany, Portugal, Belgium and the UK.

Promoting the Mangalitsa pig and educate everyone interested in learning more about this beautiful heritage lard breed, created originally in 1833 in in the old Austro-Hungarian empire, is our main passion.
​
Our goal is based on working with farmers, butchers and chefs interested in raising pigs in an ethical way, that want to work with high quality pork.
​
We advise & educate about the Mangalitsa, where to find good genetics or feeders and arrange sales of breeding stock. Feel free to contact us.
