We all had so many questions when we started and even when you breed / raise pigs for several years there will always be questions. Some are basic ones some are connected to your special environment where you raise them or to other unique things that might not be as common.
What we will try to do is to answer the common questions. This section will be build continuously, so please visit this part once in a while.

The breed
- How many litters can a Mangalitsa pig have?
The age of Mangalitsa pig breed sows at the first parturition is approximately 17.3 months. They have 1.2–2.0 litters per year with around five piglets of 1.1–1.6 kg live body weight.
Sows
- When can I breed my Mangalitsa gilt?
Your gilt should reach first a certain maturity, physically and mentally before you should put her with a boar. That would be around . We sadly see many teenage pregnancies as people think they can not get pregnant at a young age. WRONG! Mangalitsa gilts can get pregnant at 16 weeks / 4 month of age!!

- How many litters can a Mangalitsa pig have?

- Are Mangalica pigs good mothers?
They have good mother instincts and the boars are mostly calm and easy to work with. Still do not underestimate the strength of a fully grown pig, always treat them with respect.
- How long are Mangalitsa pigs pregnant?
Mangalitsa pig are the same as all other pig breeds (and Wild Boar) the duration of gestation period is 113-117 days. In very rare cases it can even take some days more.
- How big are the litters of a Mangalitsa pig?
The size of the litters are mostly between 5 - 8 piglets but older or less good reproducing sows can have less than 4. There are for sure also sows who have bigger litters but as a Mangalitsa has mostly 10 sometimes 12 nipples bigger litters can be hard on the sow and the sow can get milked down (skinny) easier. Be also prepared that she might loose 1-2 by stepping or laying on them the first 48 hours when the litter is bigger than 8.

- How big are the litters of a Mangalitsa pig?
